History Key Stage 2 ~ The Victorians 1851

Designed for small groups of highly motivated and inquiring children. This Victorian day promotes role-play and evidence-based investigation to get pupils excited about history and carry out research.

Morning

1st May 1851. During the morning, the children will prepare for the afternoon classroom session.  Using a round robin system each child will visit each of the ten stations and research in order to:

  • Discover their ‘identity’ from the census returns
  • Find out about street life in Stepney at the time
  • Find out about Brook Street School
  • Learn about the The Great Exhibition
  • Work with artefacts from the travelling museum

Afternoon

History off the Page will bring all the materials needed to recreate a Victorian classroom in the hall. The atmosphere will be created by darkening the room and using an oil lamp for light.

Details of this and further information about the day are included in a booklet which is sent out prior to a booking. All the History Off the Page providers are experienced teachers and storytellers who enjoy working with large groups of children. Generally there will be a story told during the day.
