| History Key Stage 2 ~
The Vikings |
Setting
The Ninth Century AD. The death of Eric Bloodaxe. The
pupils take the roles of Viking villagers at the time of Eric Bloodaxe's burial. They will
actively explore how this event affected the
lives of Vikings during the ninth century.
Workshops
History Off the Page will bring all the equipment and
materials needed to set up workshops in your hall. The atmosphere will be created by
using drama and role-play, facsimile items etc. The workshops often include: preparing
cures with the wise woman; making ink for the monks and testing it and dipping
beeswax candles.
The afternoon is divided into two sessions:
Archaeological Investigation
During the afternoon session the pupils continue to
explore the history of Viking communities in Britain through archaeological
activity.
Recreation of the burial
Through role-play and drama the pupils will discover how
the dead kings were honoured during Viking times.
Details of this and further information about the day are included in a booklet which is sent out prior to a booking. All the History Off the Page providers are experienced teachers and storytellers who enjoy working with large groups of children. Generally there will be a story told during the day.
