History Off the Page brings Stuart England to life with up to 60 KS 1 children. History Off the Page provides valuable learning opportunities for the pupils through a combination of role-play, practical activities and hands-on experience with facsimile artefacts. This is the first day designed by History Off the Page to specifically address QCA History Unit 5: ‘How do we know about the Great Fire of London?’

    Setting

The pupils will study the lives of, and take the roles of, workers and residents of London on Monday 3rd September 1666.

    Archaeology & Evidence

Pupils will  address the core question of QCA History Unit 5. Through an archaeology workshop and studying written evidence, the pupils will develop and use their investigative skills to look at evidence left after the fire.

    Workshops

History Off the Page will bring all the equipment and materials needed to set up workshops in your hall. The school needs to provide tables and adult supervisors. The atmosphere will be created by using drama and role-play, facsimile items and the sort of materials which were used by the Stuarts. The workshops normally include Barber Surgeons, Apothecaries, Leather Workers

    Inquiry

The pupils will look at evidence and prepare themselves for a Public Inquiry into the fire.  This will provide the pupils with a rounded view of many of the issues and events surrounding the Great Fire of London.
