Everyone, whatever shape, size, age, or confidence level,
can appreciate movement as a means of communicating ideas. You do not have
to be a dancer yourself to put over its wonder and value to children. These
sessions aim to show you how to introduce dance to children as a language.
Working at your own level, we explore ways of telling a story, expressing
feelings, and responding to music through dance.
Sessions offer a blend of practical ideas, planning,
resources, choosing music, methods of warming up and cooling down. Video
recordings of children aged 4-11 working on dance projects will be used to
demonstrate ideas.
A wide range of ideas for addressing particular themes
through dance will be given. Sessions can concentrate on dance purely for
lesson times through to building a whole school performance, according to
your specific needs.
‘We have had the opportunity today
to perform our dance....They were so clear about what they had to do, were
an absolute delight to watch and their concentration was amazing!’
Sarah Briggs, Stukeley Meadows Primary School, Huntingdon.
In all cases clear, manageable methods will be shown and
tried, classroom organisation addressed, resources and books recommended,
and reference made to the work of relevant artists. The sessions are
informal, practical and relaxed, and offer a wealth of stimulating and
exciting ideas for the specialist and non-specialist alike.
